TICK-BORNE ENCEPHALITIS (TICOVAC)

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is a viral infection acquired through a tick bite or ingestion of raw milk or cheese in parts of Western and Northern Europe and Northern and Eastern Asia- symptoms are fever, confusion, neurological problems, and bodyaches 2-28 days after the virus is acquired. There is no treatment for the virus. Its incidence peaks April-November.

≥ 1 yr Primary Series (3 doses): d0, d14-3mo, 5-12 mo. Booster may be done ≥ 3yrs after primary series.

Contraindications: Allergy to eggs, chickens, gentamicin, neomycin; possibly pregnancy

Adverse Reactions: Fever, injection-site discomfort, headache, bodyaches.
